Our Research

As part of our basic research in economics, we focus on two areas: firstly, the relationship between intangible capital and labor productivity growth, and secondly, the economics of the European Economic and Monetary Union.
Our projects submitted in 2024/25 were certified as R&D projects by the Research Allowance Certification Authority (BSFZ) and funded by the European Commission's Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (DG RTD). A complete overview of our research projects since 2004 can be found on the academic homepage.

Our current research projects

Inflation and public support for the euro (2026)

In this research project we want to examine the extent to which the rise and fall in inflation between 2021 and 2024 had an impact on public support for the euro.

Intangible assets and productivity at the company level: R&D versus other intangible assets (2025)

Cooperation with ZEW Mannheim: This research project aims to determine which of the four elements of intangible capital (IC) (research and development (R&D), software, training, marketing) has a significant impact on productivity at the company level in the case study of Germany.

Intangible Capital in France and Germany: Is there a Measurement Issue? (2024)

Cooperation with University Paris-Saclay: In this research project we examine whether the significant differences in the aggregate investment levels of intangible capital in France and Germany discovered in preliminary studies (HORIZON 2020 GLOBALINTO project) are due to potential measurement errors in the available data.
The results of the project will be published in:
AStA Economic and Social Statistics Archive - A Journal of the German Statistical Society
